![]() ![]() One by one, I held each book, never stopping to read. WITHOUT READING A SINGLE PAGE, DOES THIS SPARK JOY? So, just like with all of the other categories in the KonMari Method, I gathered all of my books in our house and put them in a pile to sort through. Pretty soon, I’d be talking myself out of this whole tidying thing and returning to a life of disarray and over-abundance. That’s a bad yet alluringly logical pathway to travel down. It fits perfectly there and it belongs in my collection.” There is a definite psychological angle to this process, and if I had left all the books were they were- stored neatly on shelves, piled by my bedside, and stacked on side tables- my lazy side would take over and I would think, “You know, there’s really no point in taking that book out. The real burden of this category was lugging stacks of heavy books from all over our house into one big pile, but I knew I couldn’t skip this step. ![]() This is because, let’s face it, we have books and paper in pretty much every room of the house. At no point was this concept of sorting by category more logical than with my latest projects: sorting through books and, next, paper. That way, it’s out of your home and blessing someone else, and you’ll quickly start to feel the positive impact of all your hard work!Īs always, I looooooove when you share photos of using the checklist and tag me on Instagram. This year, I’ve been going through the KonMari Method of organizing and tidying up my home following Marie Kondo’s regimen of decluttering your belongings category by category (not room by room). Check off each group of items after they’ve been decluttered and organized. It’s important to follow the order of categories, but you can do each line item in whichever order you wish. Video: How do you use the KonMari decluttering checklist?įollowing the criteria above, work your way through the checklist by category, starting with Clothing and ending with Sentimental. Hold each item and ask if it sparks joy, or if it’s something you consistently use and need. The more you practice discarding and tidying, the easier it becomes. This goes from easier (clothing) to harder (sentimental items). Work through the categories in the specific order on the checklist.Gather everything in that category no matter where they are in your home. Go through your possessions by category, not location. ![]() Imagine your ideal lifestyle and how great it will feel to have a clear, clean space to keep you motivated. Commit to decluttering your entire space, thoroughly and completely, no matter how long it takes. How do you declutter using the KonMari Method? It’s a complete decluttering method in which you declutter by category of item and NOT room-by-room, thus ensuring the most thorough weeding out of anything you don’t use and love. It’s a system for decluttering and tidying your home that encourages you to only keep items that spark joy in your life. The KonMari Method was created by Marie Kondo and popularized by her book The Lifechanging Magic of Tidying Up. Why is it important that the decluttering checklist is arranged by category and not room? Here’s a bit of background for you before we jump into the free checklist! What is the KonMari Method? I also added a checkbox next to each item to make it easier to check off after you decluttered each category… ’cause let’s face it, checking that little box feels SO DANG GOOD. I went through each category and expanded it so you don’t miss a thing this is also helpful if time or energy is limited so you can tackle one small group each day and don’t get overwhelmed. Since it’s been awhile since we posted the original checklist, I decided it was time for an update. The ultimate KonMari decluttering checklist I posted years ago is one of our most popular blog posts, and I still get tagged on Instagram years later with people using it which makes my organizing geek heart skip a beat. On a KonMari Method of decluttering kick? Here’s how to organize your closet the KonMari way and how to declutter and organize books. We’ve updated our popular Ultimate KonMari Decluttering and Organizing checklist and made it even BETTER, so you can truly declutter and organize once and for all! Download the pdf with the silhouette (in Dutch or in English) and print the only you like at the correct format. Then the image was scaled so that the wingspan matches the average wingspan mentioned in Limpens et al (1997).įinally, it is time for some craft work. Once vectorised, the left side was mirrored in order to get a complete bat with fully extended wings. Since the drawings were quite detailed, I decided to not only digitise the outline but also the main anatomical features like the contours of the body, ears, mouth, arms, fingers, legs and tail. I ended up scanning and vectorising the left side of the bat. Peter was kind enough to give his permission to use his drawings as a template for the silhouettes and share the result. The drawings, made by Peter Twisk, display a bat seen from the ventral side with the left wing full extended and the right wing folded. I recalled that Limpens et al (1997) has nice drawings of several bat species. a long eared bat should have long ears, a noctule should have narrow wings while a serotine should have broad wings. Some asked for the template or suggested to use a more anatomically correct template. Yes, you’re using a food bank, but it’s the same food that I would go buy at the store - not just the rejected cans out of someone’s pantry. “We want to put as much humanity back into food as we can. Shelf-stable items are taken to Second Harvest’s warehouse where they’re sorted and distributed to the organization’s partner agencies: a network of over 550 food pantries, shelters, and churches. Stores like Publix donate both funds and unsold food. Still, local grocery stores and corporate sponsors provide most of the food bank’s resources. With those discounts, each dollar donated can provide up to three meals for someone in need! Like most food banks, Second Harvest takes in donations from both individuals and local companies. ![]() Second Harvest Food Banks exists to change those statistics, and that has started by building relationships within the communities. With the outbreak of COVID-19 and subsequent economic downturn, food insecurity and hunger have only become more widespread. Even more worrisomely, one out of every five children in this region was considered at-risk for hunger. Before the pandemic began, experts estimated that over 160,000 people were going hungry in East Tennessee alone. The team at Second Harvest Food Bank in East Tennessee is particularly passionate about what they do, and with good reason. Through these coordinated efforts, Second Harvest serves over one million meals every month. Each region has its own system, working with local partners to meet the needs of families in nearly every county in the state. Since its 1982 founding, Second Harvest Food Bank has become a recognized member of Feeding America & part of the Tennessee food bank network, plus established food distribution sites in 18 counties throughout East Tennessee. The data connection works in over 60 countries, which should be more than enough for most adventures. Like the Pocketalk, the Langogo Genesis uses a data connection (or WiFi when needed) and comes with a free two-year data plan. Battery life isn’t the greatest with 4.5 hours of continuous use and two days of standby, but a decently fast hour charging time makes up for that a bit. You get two years of free data after purchasing the device, and it costs just $50 a year after that. If you’re going to an unsupported country or you don’t have a signal, the translator works over WiFi, hotspot or swappable SIM card too. The Pocketalk uses built-in LTE data connectivity and works in over 130 countries. This comes in handy for things like menus, road signs and, say, notes from your Airbnb host (it can pick up handwriting as well as print). One of the most exciting upgrades with the Pocketalk S over the previous-gen model is an eight-megapixel camera for fast image translation. The device can also help with figure out foreign currency exchanges, measurements and temperature. A handful of the languages are only translated to text (that you can show to the person you’re talking to), but an 82-language capacity is still very impressive. Like their older, best-selling device, the Pocketalk S offers fast, two-way translation between 82 languages. Pocketalk is one of the biggest names in pocket translators, and their new S model is probably the best all-around device. Still, you’ll want to check two things in regards to data: coverage and cost to pay for data after your free two years are up. The former (translators with built-in data) take a slight edge, as you can use them anywhere, anytime without a smartphone connection. Some also work by connecting to your smartphone and using your phone’s data or WiFi connection.
